Frequently Asked Questions…
What makes Sycamore Learning Center different from other reviews?
We are different in that you will receive the attention you deserve and not be a lost voice amongst a classroom full of inattentive students. Your instructor, Ms. Gomez has worked at reputable hospitals and medical centers throughout the nation: Albert Einstein Medical Center in the East Coast, Michael Reese Medical Center in the Midwest, and the world-renowned City of Hope National Medical Center in the West Coast. Ms. Gomez has earned continuing education courses on Spirituality and Healing in Medicine, from Harvard Medical School and a graduate of Loyola Marymount University in Pastoral Care. Ms. Gomez earned her Master of Science degree in Nursing from Mount St. Mary's College. After graduation, she was invited to join their Nursing Faculty both for their accelerated BSN and Traditional BSN programs at Chalon and Doheny campuses. Where else can you receive world class nursing instruction in a small intimate setting?
Is there a guarantee to pass the NCLEX with your review?
NO review program can (or should) guarantee success and you should be wary of any program that does. Sycamore Learning Center For Nurses would like to have our students study hard and pass the exam on their first attempt after taking our program. If you put in the hard work, time, and study habits required, your chances for success are high.
Is your school endorsed by the California Board or Registered Nursing?
Sycamore is listed on the board's NCLEX REVIEW RESOURCE page.
Can anyone get into your review?
Sycamore NCLEX Review is a very comprehensive, in depth, nursing review geared for those absolutely serious in passing the exam. We will not give you a quick fix. We demand hard work and participation. If you fit this criteria, you will be a good fit in our classes.
Who teaches the class?
This comprehensive review will be conducted personally by Ms. Esther P. Gomez, R.N., BSN, MSN, CPC, a California-based registered nurse who studied, trained and practiced in the US for over 30 years as a clinical nurse and nursing faculty. Ms. Gomez has conducted NCLEX-RN/LPN/LVN reviews with a high pass rate since 2003. Ms. Gomez has taught at universities such as Mount St. Mary’s, American Career College, and has been a staff educator at Kaiser Medical Center.
Can you help me find part time job while I'm working on getting my nursing license?
We are partnered with a local home care staffing agency and they are always looking for new caregivers. We can help you with this process.
Do you conduct practice tests?
Yes. You will take practice tests during almost every class session as well as homework to better assess the areas you need improvement. In addition, we have hundreds of online questions to allow students to practice on their own time.
I would like to speak to the teacher before I register. May I do so?
Sure. Just let us know and we can set that up.
May I sit in with a class session before I register?
Not all review classes are created equal. In order to find out if you are a good fit with our program, sitting in is encouraged. You may sit in with an existing class session for 1-hour by appointment only.
What is covered in the class?
All the major topics as outlined on the NCSBN.org website. The NCSBN is the organization that administers the NCLEX exam.
What's your success passing rate?
We have a very high passing rate. Our percentage reflects ALL of our students who have taken the NCLEX and can be searched simply by checking the Board of Registered Nursing.
Why isn't your passing rate 98-100% like other reviews claim?
Because we are honest. There is no such thing as a 100% passing rate or else we would never receive students coming from other reviews who claim to have such unbelievable passing rates. The majority of our students have taken the NCLEX multiple times before attending our review. The typical students who have enrolled in our review have taken the test up to 5 times, been out of school for decades, foreign students who are accustom to different terminology, or students who come from schools under probation. If we can guide these students to success, we know we can help you achieve success as well.
When will your next review dates be posted?
We conduct classes all year long. New class schedules are posted 1-month before start of the new review session.
How many students do you accept per session?
We try to keep our classes at 10 students per session in order to give our students the maximized experience.
Can you conduct a private review session for my study group?
Definitely. We can work out a custom review's schedule to accommodate your group. Please inquire for details.
If I miss a class, how can I make it up?
Please CALL ahead of time if you will be absent. You can make up the class you missed in the next scheduled session or with a coinciding class in the same month. In the rare occasion class is canceled, a make-up date will be scheduled.
If I miss a class, can you send me the answer key to the practice test I missed?
Your commitment to all review sessions is key in achieving success. Therefore, we do not provide answer keys for practice questions you have missed. You may either attend a later coinciding date to get those answers.
Is Sycamore a Christian based review?
We here at Sycamore Learning Center practice spirituality on a regular basis and truly believe prayer and/or meditation will increase your chances in passing. But we in no way impose our beliefs in class. If you are a student and would like to discuss inserting prayer/meditation into your testing preparation, we would be happy to do so before or after class. We welcome people from all walks of life into our program.
Reservations:
Will you hold my seat if I give my name?
No. The only way to secure a spot in the class is with a registration fee. We are happy to add your name to the roster, but that will not guarantee your seat.
My friend wants to take the class with me, can I reserve him/her seat?
Only if you are making their payment and have all of their contact information. It is usually best to have your friend call or go to our reservation page online to make their reservation themselves.
Can I make a reservation online through the website?
Yes, but you will need to make a credit card payment to guarantee your spot. Each person must fill out a registration form separately.
Payment:
When is payment due?
We recommend that students make a $50 deposit for the program prior to the start of the class as long as there is still room. This will secure and guarantee your spot for your selected NCLEX review date. The remainder of your tuition will be due on the first day.
How much is tuition?
For new students, the class fee is $380 for LVN’s and $430 for RN’s. This cost includes taxes and all review materials. In addition, you may attend extra sessions after your scheduled NCLEX review has finished for only $40 per session or $150 for all four sessions, good for up to 3 months.
Do I have to pay the full amount right away?
No. You can make a $50 deposit to hold your seat in the program with the remaining balance due on the first day. We can also work out a payment plan, which we can discuss with you if needed.
How do I make a deposit?
You may send a $50.00 deposit by mail with a personal check, cashier's check or money order. You can also make a deposit by credit card through our website.
Can I get a refund?
We advise that only those who are truly serious about passing the NCLEX exam to join our program. Our review is very in-depth and intense and we would not want to waste your time if you are not prepared physically or mentally. Therefore, if after the lunch break of your first session you do not feel our review is for you, you are free to back out with a refund, NOT INCLUDING your $50 deposit OR $50 of your total tuition fee. Because class sizes are extremely limited, your deposit is NOT refundable if cancellation is made within one week before the start of the review session.
When is my registration and balance due?
You must register one week prior to the class in order to be added. You may call to see if there is still room after the one week deadline. The full balance is due on the first day of class to ensure your spot and review materials. Registration balance may be paid on the first day in cash, personal check, cashier's check, credit card, money order, or a prior payment plan arrangement that has been provided to you by us.
